Western Digital My Book Mac Edition

The Western Digital My Book Mac Edition is a Macintosh HFS+ preformatted external hard drive available in 640GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. WD SmartWare comes preloaded which is a backup program that will automatically do the backing up for you as well as manage your files in different categories. Some people prefer to use the drive in conjunction with TimeMachine which does the same thing, and is compatible immediately upon connecting the drive via the USB 2.0 port. The drive itself is a 7200 RPM SATA and is based on Western Digital's GreenPower technology which has been implemented to optimize spin speed, transfer rates and caching. Another power saving feature is the fact that the drive turns on and off along with your computer so there are no on and off switches, however there is a small ambient activity LED(also turns off with the computer). This drive is basically a My Book Essential Edition that has been Mac preformatted for a few dollars more, however Windows users can also use it by formatting it to the Windows NTFS file system first.
