Western Digital My Book World Edition

The Western Digital My Book World Edition is a consumer level network storage device with Ethernet and USB 2.0 connections. Otherwise similar to the WD ShareSpace, the World Edition only has one drive as opposed to four, which comes in either 1TB or 2TB capacities. Typical use of this device would be to backup several computers on a small home or office network. The user platform is web-based, which means that the drive is accessed through the web browser. MioNet remote access software comes preloaded on the drive which allows you to access it from anywhere in the world, even when other computers on its network are off. This makes it both Mac and PC friendly, you only have to map the network drive with your computer once and it will be recognized after that. Connecting to other systems through UPNP(universal plug and play) is also possible such as Xbox or PlayStation as well as streaming video through one of those to a tv for watching 1080p video. Typically this would be used as a home network backup device with remote access, automatically backing up files from all computers connected to it, although considering the ability to connect to the My Book iTunes server and the video streaming capabilities it could also serve as a home media storage hub that anyone can access from anywhere in the house.
