Western Digital SiliconDrive II Series
The Western Digital SiliconDrive II Series is a line of internal PATA Solid State (SSD) hard drives consisting of the SiliconDrive II 2.5 and the SiliconDrive II PATA CF. The latter of the two is in the form of a CF card which is ultra compact and only 3.3mm thick, although it is compatible with the 2.5" form factor with the use of an adapter and therefore can be used as an internal drive. Both drives share the usual suite of onboard WD technologies including the patented SolidStor data transfer algorithms, SiSMART early warning system and PowerArmor surge protection. They also sport an improved lifespan rating of 4,000,000 hours MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) over the much faster SiliconDrive III Series that replaced them in June of 2009 but hey whats a couple million hours here or there? Read and write speeds are 34MB/s and 19MB/s respectively for both drives and shock resistance of 1000g's and operational altitude of 80,000ft is also featured. Military and high security applications have been targeted by WD with their SSD drives which also come in extended temperature versions for reliable operation in extreme climates.
