Windows XP Media Center Edition is an expanded version of Windows XP Professional that is centered around the Windows Media Center application. This comprehensive system is responsible for managing and playing all of the media content that is stored on any storage devices that are connected to the computer, either directly or over a network. Media Center Edition also contains the support for TV tuner hardware which lets you watch and stream live television programs. Microsoft also uses Media Center Extenders which give you access to the full Media Center experience from other televisions that aren't directly connected to the Media computer, the Xbox 360 is one example of an extender.
