The Fit Flop

Is the Fit Flop another weight-loss gimmick or does it really work? The Fit Flop claims to work your thighs and calf muscles with their patented shoe design of a multi-density sole that 'works' on your muscles midstep, thus toning your thighs, calves and glutes. They work by slightly destabilizing the foot, so that you're constantly fighting for balance while you're wearing them. They do this using a micro-wobbleboard that is incorporated into the sole of the shoe and makes them a slightly raised platform. Wearers have noted that the walking takes some getting used to as you have to focus on a more concentrated way of walking. The shoes are meant to be extremely comfortable as well with a soft cushioning and have been ergonomically designed to mimic a barefoot gait.

The Fit Flop was conceived by Marcia Kilgore of the UK who never had time to go to the gym, and wanted a way of exercising that could be incorporated into her daily life. The Crocs Cyprus is Crocs' first foray into a truly high-heeled shoe. Although the Crocs Sassari is also high-heeled, the heel is wedge style, making the Cyprus an original. The criss-cross upper and footbed are all made with the patented croslite material with circulation nubs on the inner sole for improved circulation. The heel height is surprisingly high at 3".

Dopies are trying to oust the Crocs market for ubiquitous, yet not-quite-sure-why popularity. The Dopie sandal tries to break the mold of traditional sandals by foregoing the strap. Instead, by using light material and a rigid sole, a 'nipple' was created for the toes which would be enough to hold the shoe onto the foot. After a lot of prototypes and serious studying of ancient examples from Tibet, the Dopie was formed. The toe-hold is made of a soft foam for comfort while the rest of the sole is made from EVA plastic and rubber. An optional strap comes with the shoe in case you're doing an activity that might cause your shoe to fall off (roller coasters, skateboarding, etc.) They're available in a variety of colors.

The original Dopie was designed by Matthew Harrison while studying at the Royal College of Art in London, England. He created the Dopie knowing people would be thrown by their lack of straps, but he remains confident that because of the toe-hold, straps are an unnecessary evil.

Prices can vary wildly, so it pays to search around.

The Crocs Sassari are the first pair of Crocs to feature a high heel. The wedge has a heel height of about 3 inches and is made from the same croslite material used in other Croc designs. The shoe comes in a variety of colors and has a cushioned footbed that conforms to the wearer's foot for a custom fit. The footbed also has 'circulation nubs' which claim to increase bloodflow and make your walking more comfortable. Some people with narrower feet have found that Crocs fit bigger than the marked size, and this can be especially true in a wedge design so if you're buying a pair of the Sassari's and you have narrow feet, you might want to order a size down.

Crocs exploded on the market in early 2000 and by 2003 had become a bonafide phenomenon. The Crocs shoe is made from proprietary croslite material that is bacteria resistant, non-marking and resistant to odor. The material is a resin that is neither plastic nor rubber and has a unique cushioning aspect, which is what makes people find Crocs so comfortable. The easy-to-clean aspect also comes in handy as Crocs can get wet without a problem.

With Payless shoes, there's no question about quality - you're not getting the best. They're not genuine leather and they will probably not last through very rigorous wear. For this reason, connoisseurs of shoes didn't entertain the idea of grabbing a pair of funky heels from Payless, no matter how dire the (financial) circumstances. However, now that Payless has jumped on their trendy bandwagon, all bets are off.
