OK I had the same problem with the JbOnE shortcut maker.  I finally got it to work using team xbmc's solution (option 2 on this page:)

I think what you did wrong was to not create a config file in the root of c with the same name as your booting xbe. This file should contain the path to your XBMC default.xbe. See this link for more info.

In future you could start by setting up your shortcut with a test name first and then see if you can run that from your existing dash. Only if that works, you could rename to your booting xbe. Also, I'd have a boot CD handy too. Unless you need a large black door-stop ;)
