This is regarding your Sherwood Netboxx review. It's not quite right. It doesn't upscale video passed through HDMI, but it will act as pass through for 1080i/p video, like from Blu-Ray. The 720p output is just from the streamed video (Netflixx, Hulu, Youtube, etc).

Yale, Thanks for taking the time to review the Asus K70IO laptop.

I am trying to find a laptop for my 10yr old daughter. She loves to play Spore which is pretty demanding on video. I want to her to be able to watch movies on it and possibly hook it to flat screen via HDMI.

She wont be moving it much so the weight wont be an issue.

I love ASUS products. I have built several computers on their motherboards and video cards. I am very comfortable with their products - dont need more well know brand (Sony/HP etc..)

All this for less than 800.

  • 17.3" LED Backlit Display
  • 1600x900 resolution
  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • Intel MCP79d chipset
  • NVIDIA GeForce 120M graphics card with 1GB internal memory
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 320 GB HDD
  • DVD Burner
  • Both VGA and 1.3-megapixel webcams
  • Built-in Altec Lansing speakers with SRS surround sound
  • Up to 5 hour battery life with 6-cell battery

This looks like a great deal - almost too good!
Why is it so cheap for the specs?  Am I missing something?
I know it isnt DDR3 but the video chipset is more upto date than most laptops in the price range.
This model seems to be just whatI am looking for for her but I am little scared off by the "too good to be true" question and the fact that your review maybe the only one on the entire internet that isnt just a copy/paste from ASUS's web site.

This is a big $$ purchace so I am trying to make the best choice.

Thanks for your time.

Russ

Just saying wasup!

You had removed me from your GMAIL messenger. I apologize if I had offended you. I never had anything against you. I am a wild fellow. Many things occurring in my life at one time. My mind is always bouncing from spot to another, which is why I barely stay in chat to talk.

You a cool guy though. And I have a tremendous deal of respect for you. You white, but that's alright tonight. (that rhymed--haha)

Take it easy, man!

I read your review of the the Sony Vaio JS all in one series and you stated that it could not display 1080p. 7 people agreed.

http://www.productwiki.com/sony-vaio-js-series/

> can't display full 1080p (the main reason for buying the enhanced Blu-ray model)

Was this a consistent problem?

Streaming video from the internet is a big issue with me. I know 1080p is not prevalent for streaming from the internet right now, but I want to be able to use the computer I buy for a while.

What is strange is the X45000HD graphics card that comes with the system is supposed to be handle 1080 according to the specifications.

If I upgrade to a better machine at E7400 (2.80GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) with NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS GPU with Total Available Graphics Memory of 2030MG, do you think this will that solve the problem?

You seemed to slam the Samsung P2370 pretty hard. The one you do recommend is the Dell Ultrasharp 2209wa 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor which you don't recommend for hard core gamers.

So, what monitor *do* you recommend for hard-core gamers in the 350-400 dollar range.

didn't see it when I searched this morning, must have been the lack of caffeine. Anyhow i appreciate the message yale

Your review of the AMD 7750 is wrong.

The TDP is 95 watts for the x4, x3, and x2.... HMMMMMM lets think about this for a second... They all have the same architecture, but different number of cores. Gee, maybe when you get the dual core you will realize that it doesn't come close to 95 watts because it is actually and x4 processor, but it has half it's cores shut off.

And now for your ignorant over clocking comment.... The dual core will put out less head than the quad running at the same speed, thus you can increase the voltage and therefore the clock speed. This is why the dual cores run at 2.7 GHz while the top quad core is at 2.6 GHz.

Dear Yale,
