The Yamaha YST-SW216 is an entry-level front-firing subwoofer that provides up to 100 watts of dynamic power. The subwoofer features Yamaha's advanced YST II technology in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel impedence and provide a high level of performance. It is designed with a 10" long-stroke cone driver and a high-density MDF cabinet for reduced vibration and resonance. The YST-SW216 offers a frequency response of 25 to 180 Hz and includes a selectable high cut filter of 40 to 140 Hz. It also features a linear port for reducing extraneous noise and is magnetically shielded, allowing it to be placed near video devices. The subwoofer comes in a black finish and has a suggested retail price of $150.

Pros
- Price is right for low-end to midrange home theater.
- Active subwoofer (externally powered).
- Hi-cut filter knob.
- Magnetically shielded
- Tough cabinet, takes a punch very well.
- Able to plug in other speakers in rear.
- Optional second RCA jack for L/R bass, or secondary subwoofer.
- Hard to find an equally good sub in price range.
Cons
- A little hefty for the power it outputs.
- Anyone with a decent knowledge of Home Theater will find rear extra speaker terminals unecessary.
