The Zipit Wireless Messenger 2 messaging specific device that can send SMS text messages over the cellular network, or send IMs if connected through WiFi. The IM works with your AOL, Yahoo and MSN IM accounts for free using the 802.11 g/b wireless protocols. The Z2 can play music and has a photo viewer along with a microSD slot for additional storage. It can also stream internet radio. It is similar in size to a smartphone.

Though it has a good price point and design, it's too late. IM on cell phones- even in 'Merica, is common.

Cell phone contracts cost a lot, and furthermore, its easier to dodge a SMS/Text Message than a cell phone call, so such a device provides greater peace of mind. We need more devices like this..
