Text-Messaging

The Z2 uses the standard SMS text messaging protocol, meaning you can send text messages to any cell phone. The monthly service plan for the text messaging access costs $4.99/month, making it a cheap alternative to high text messaging fees with your standard cell phone service provider. The Zipit has a cap on the number of textmessages sent and received with the plan (3,000) so you never have overages.

Though it has a good price point and design, it's too late. IM on cell phones- even in 'Merica, is common.

Cell phone contracts cost a lot, and furthermore, its easier to dodge a SMS/Text Message than a cell phone call, so such a device provides greater peace of mind. We need more devices like this..
